In 1980, Arnold Rietzel founded A.R. Landscaping with “$280 and a pocket full of credit cards”. In those days the work was done mostly by hand, a tough business that grew by word of mouth and a “get the job done” attitude.
Arnold became well known in the city for his gregarious personality and work ethic. The business was a family one, employing as many as eight members at one time. Sons, Darren and Ralph, both worked for the family business during the summer and then full time once finished school. In 1993, Darren graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with a diploma in Ornamental Horticulture. After graduation, Darren joined the company to continue gaining practical experience. This prepared him for the sudden passing of his father in 1996. Education and work experience enabled Darren with the help of his brother Ralph to continue operating the family business. Rietzel Landscaping is a member of Landscape New Brunswick, Canadian Construction Association, and Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. In 2007 Darren became IPM certified. Rietzel Landscaping currently employs 10 people seasonally.
